Privacy Policy

Our Privacy Commitment
Let's be real for a second. Most privacy policies are written by lawyers who get paid by the word, and they're designed to hide the fact that companies are hoovering up your data like it's going out of style. Ours is different. We're going to be honest with you because, frankly, we don't have much to hide.
GetMP3.video was built from the ground up with one core idea: your files are yours. We literally cannot see them. We don't want to see them. The whole architecture of this tool exists so that your stuff stays on your computer and never touches our servers. Not temporarily. Not "encrypted in transit." Not "stored securely for 24 hours then deleted." Never. Period.
We're a small team that makes a free audio conversion tool. We don't have a data warehouse. We don't have a machine learning pipeline trained on your vacation videos. We built this thing so you could convert files without trusting a stranger with your data. That's the whole point.
What Happens When You Convert a File
We think you deserve to know exactly what goes on under the hood when you use our tool. Here's the step by step breakdown:
- You pick a file. You click the upload button or drag a file onto the page. That file gets loaded into your browser's memory. It doesn't go anywhere else.
- Your browser does the heavy lifting. We use a technology called FFmpeg.wasm, which is basically a powerful audio/video processing engine that runs right inside your web browser. Think of it like installing a mini app that lives in your browser tab.
- The conversion happens locally. FFmpeg.wasm reads your file, processes it, and spits out the converted result. All of this happens on YOUR device, using YOUR processor and YOUR memory. Our servers are just sitting there serving the webpage. They have no idea what file you picked or what you're doing with it.
- You download the result. When the conversion is done, your browser generates a download link. You click it, and the file saves to your computer. Again, it never passes through us.
- That's it. Close the tab and everything is gone. There's no conversion history. No cloud backup. No "recently converted" list on our end. It's like it never happened.
If you're the technical type: open your browser's Network tab in DevTools while converting a file. You'll see zero upload requests to our servers. We encourage you to verify this yourself. Seriously, go check. We'll wait.
Information We Collect
Files You Convert
We do NOT collect, store, or access any files you convert. All conversion happens locally on your device using client-side JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files never leave your computer. We'll keep saying this because it's the most important thing on this page.
Analytics Data (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how people use the site. Here's exactly what that means in plain English:
What Google Analytics CAN see:
- Which pages you visited (e.g., you went to the MP4 to MP3 converter page)
- How long you stayed on a page (roughly)
- What country and city you're browsing from (based on your IP, but GA4 doesn't store full IP addresses)
- What browser and device you're using (Chrome on Windows, Safari on iPhone, etc.)
- How you found us (Google search, a link from Reddit, typed the URL directly, etc.)
- General events like "user clicked the convert button" (but NOT what file you converted)
What Google Analytics CANNOT see:
- Your name, email, or any personal info
- What files you converted
- The contents of your files
- Your file names
- Anything about the actual conversion process
Google Analytics gives us data like "542 people used the MP4 to MP3 tool today" and "most of our users are on mobile." That's about it. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, and we won't be offended.
Cookies
Cookies get a bad rap, and honestly, sometimes they deserve it. Here's what we use them for:
- Theme Preference: When you switch between dark mode and light mode, we save that choice in your browser's local storage (technically not even a cookie) so you don't have to toggle it every time you visit.
- Google Analytics Cookies: GA4 sets cookies like
_gaand_ga_[ID]to distinguish between unique visitors. These contain randomly generated IDs, not personal information. They expire after 2 years of inactivity. - Google AdSense Cookies: Our ad partner (Google AdSense) sets cookies to show you relevant ads and to limit how many times you see the same ad. These are third party cookies controlled by Google, not us. More on this in the advertising section below.
You can clear all cookies from your browser settings at any time. You can also use browser extensions to block specific cookies. The site will work just fine without them (you'll just see the default theme and less relevant ads).
What We DON'T Collect
This part is easy because the list is long. We do NOT collect:
- File names of anything you convert or edit
- File contents of any kind, ever
- Conversion history or logs of what you've processed
- Your name (we don't have accounts, so there's nothing to attach a name to)
- Your email address (unless you voluntarily email us through our contact page)
- Your phone number
- Your physical address
- Payment information (we don't sell anything, so there's nothing to pay for)
- Social media profiles
- Audio fingerprints or metadata from your files
If it sounds like personal data, we probably don't have it. And that's by design, not by accident.
How We Use Information
The limited analytics data we collect is used to:
- Figure out which tools people actually use so we can make them better
- Spot bugs and broken pages (if a page has a 90% bounce rate, something's probably wrong)
- Understand what devices and browsers to prioritize for testing
- Display ads to keep the service free (more on that below)
We don't sell data. We don't share data with third parties for their own marketing purposes. The analytics exist so we can make a better free tool. That's it.
Advertising & How We Keep This Free
Let's talk about the elephant in the room: ads. GetMP3.video is completely free to use with no usage limits, no account required, and no premium tier. So how do we keep the lights on? Ads.
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on our site. Here's what that means for you:
- Google may use cookies to show you ads based on your interests and browsing history across other websites. This is called personalized advertising.
- You can opt out of personalized ads by visiting Google's Ad Settings.
- Even with personalized ads disabled, you'll still see ads. They just won't be targeted based on your interests.
- We don't control which specific ads appear. Google's system handles that automatically.
We try to keep the ad experience as non annoying as possible. No popups. No full screen takeovers. No autoplay video ads (if one slips through, that's Google being Google, not us). We want you to come back, and bombarding you with garbage ads is a great way to make sure you don't.
If you want to support us without seeing ads, you're welcome to use an ad blocker. We won't guilt trip you. Or you can toss us a coffee on Ko-fi. Either way, the tool stays free.
Third-Party Services
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous usage statistics. GA4 uses first party cookies and does not store full IP addresses. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
Google AdSense
We display ads through Google AdSense to keep our service free. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your browsing history. Learn more at Google's Advertising Policies.
CDN Services
We use Content Delivery Networks (Cloudflare, jsDelivr) to serve static files quickly. These services may log IP addresses for security and performance purposes. This is standard practice for pretty much every website on the internet.
Data Security
- Our website is served over HTTPS, encrypting all data in transit
- We do not store any user files or personal data on our servers
- Local storage (browser) is used only for user preferences like your theme choice
- Since we don't collect personal data, there's very little to "secure" in the traditional sense. The best way to protect data is to never collect it in the first place, and that's exactly what we do.
Data Retention
This is going to be the shortest data retention section you've ever read. We don't retain your data because we never collect it.
Google Analytics retains anonymized usage data according to Google's own retention policies (we've set our retention period to 14 months). After that, it's automatically deleted from Google's servers.
Your theme preference is stored in your browser's local storage. It stays there until you clear your browser data. We have no access to it.
If you email us, we'll keep that email for as long as it's needed to respond to you and handle any follow up questions. We don't add you to a mailing list or sell your email to anyone. That would be annoying and also just wrong.
Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Regardless of where you live, we believe everyone deserves control over their own data. Here are your rights:
- Right to Access: You can ask us what data we have about you. The honest answer will be "basically nothing" unless you've emailed us.
- Right to Deletion: You can ask us to delete any data we have. You can also clear your browser cookies and local storage at any time.
- Right to Opt Out: You can disable cookies, block Google Analytics, use an ad blocker, or do all three at once. The site still works.
- Right to Portability: You can export your data (your theme preference stored in browser). That's literally all there is.
- Right to Rectification: If any data we have about you is inaccurate, you can ask us to correct it.
- Right to Restrict Processing: You can ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Right to Object: You can object to data processing based on legitimate interests.
For California Residents (CCPA)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect (spoiler: almost none)
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of the "sale" of personal information. We don't sell your personal information to anyone. Full stop.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We'll respond within 45 days as required by law, but honestly we'll probably get back to you way faster than that.
For EU/EEA Residents (GDPR)
If you're in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have all the rights listed above plus:
- The right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we're mishandling your data
- The right to withdraw consent at any time (for cookie consent, just clear your cookies or adjust your browser settings)
- The right to be informed about how your data is used (you're reading it right now)
Our legal basis for processing analytics data is legitimate interest (we need to know if the site is working). For advertising cookies, our legal basis is consent, which you provide through the cookie banner.
International Data Transfers
Our website can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Since we don't collect personal data from your file conversions, there's nothing to transfer internationally.
However, Google Analytics and Google AdSense are operated by Google LLC, which is based in the United States. When you visit our site, Google may process anonymized analytics data and advertising data on servers located in the US or other countries where Google operates. Google participates in data transfer frameworks and maintains its own privacy safeguards. You can read about Google's data practices at policies.google.com/privacy.
Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal to websites. There's no universal standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals, and honestly the whole specification has been a bit of a mess industry wide.
That said, we respect your intent. If you want to minimize tracking, we recommend using the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on, adjusting your Google Ad Settings, or using a browser that blocks third party cookies by default. These methods are more reliable than DNT signals.
Children's Privacy
Our service is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EU/EEA). We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we don't require accounts and don't collect personal info from anyone, this is more of a legal formality than a practical concern.
If you're a parent and you believe your child has somehow provided us with personal information (for example, by emailing us), please contact us at [email protected] and we'll delete it right away. No questions asked.
Kids are welcome to use the tool to convert their video game clips or whatever else they're into these days. The tool itself doesn't collect any data from anyone, regardless of age.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we ever make significant changes (like, hypothetically, if we started collecting data we didn't use to), we'll make it obvious on the site.
We're not going to sneak anything past you. That would defeat the entire purpose of this page.
Contact Us
Got questions about this Privacy Policy? Think we missed something? Just want to say hi? We're here for all of it.
Email: [email protected]
We try to respond to all privacy related inquiries within a few business days. If it's urgent, put "URGENT" in the subject line and we'll bump you to the top of the pile.
If you want to exercise any of your data rights (access, deletion, etc.), just send us an email explaining what you need. We don't have a complicated form or a 47 step verification process. Just tell us what you want and we'll make it happen.
